  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 5 eggs


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Prepare three 9-inches round cake pans coated well with butter or shortening and floured
  3. With an electric mixer, cream together shortening and butter until fluffy. Add sugar one cup at a time, slowly. Add eggs one at a time. Before adding more sugar and eggs, make sure to fully incorporate both of them before adding another
  4. Sift salt, baking powder and flour. Pour vanilla and milks into measuring cup. Whisk it together. Add to shortening and butter alternately with milk mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients
  5. Stir all ingredients. Stop mixer and scrape down sides and bottom of bowl
  6. Distribute cake batter between cake pans and place pans into oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove and allow the cake to cool in cake pans for 5 minutes. Cool it completely on a wire rack
  7. Frost the cake


White Almond Wedding Cake

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 1/3 cups water

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Grease and flour an 11×13 inch cake pan

  4. Beat with an electric mix on low for 4 minutes
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, and bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes
  6. Leave to cool before frosting
